We were just out on a whale watching boat in Maui Harbor. He was about 500 yards off the shore. In February and March it’s like whale soup out in the harbor. We just got lucky to get this one. Like I said above, we were filming from above the water just hoping we got something. I had to slow this way down so it wasn’t so jumpy, but it was a good day. I’ve got a few more I need to post that are really good as well. Maybe I’ll get to it soon. Thanks for your comments.
Oh la la! this video is amazing. How did you find yourself near that whale? how far away from the shore was the whale? what were you doing there? tell us the whole story. It must have been amazing! I saw 2 humpbacks in Moorea 3 years ago, but we were not allowed to leave the boat.
The funny thing is that we had no idea what we had until we got home. The even funnier thing was that it gave me a headache the first time I saw it until I slowed it to half speed because of the camera movement. Since then, just about every time I watch it, I almost get emotional.
Wow! Amazingly clear picture. It must have been so awe inspiring to have actually been there.
