Point and shoot, compact underwater cameras are not big and bulky anymore, nor do they require a waterproof housing to become at home in the water. The most effective underwater cameras look no different than other point and shoot compact cameras, as well as don't cost a leg and a leg more. For this reason it makes no sense to get anything but a waterproof camera. At some time most cameras will be in the situation where they may come into contact with water, but if you have an underwater camera, then you definitely won't think twice about it. Individuals are catching on to the reassurance that waterproof cameras can offer, and manufactures are catering to them by competing to produce the best underwater camera. Wish to consider discuss the things to bear in mind when deciding which to purchase for your situation.

Depth

Underwater cameras are rated because when deep they can be taken beneath the surface. The deeper down the more pressure they'll be exposed to, causing water to make its way into the mechanics with the camera, which is not obviously good. After i purchased my first underwater camera many years ago, it was rated to feet; I was thrilled. Now, I would not buy one that wasn't rated 15 feet or deeper. The higher ones are rated for 30 feet. To be honest, that unless you will probably be scuba diving or extreme free diving, most people will not need to buy a camera which will go 30 feet plus. Nevertheless, it may be wise to opt for a camera that's warranted to go a bit deeper than you'll need for a little extra insurance.

Shape and size

The size of point and shoot cameras has definitely been reduced significantly lately. In fact, when I buy a camera, I am more concerned it is not too small. Personally, it is important that a camera be able to stand on its own to ensure that I can take timed shots where I'll sit it over a rock or other structure to ensure that I can be in the image as well. For fisherman, an underwater camera must be able to sit on surface of uneven rocks. Not everybody carries or has time for you to set up a tripod, so you've to use what you have around during the time.

Adventure Rated

If you're at all interested in buying an underwater camera, then you're most likely the adventurous type. If that is the case then you will need to make sure you purchase a camera that can handle whatever you will throw advertising online. You will want to make sure your purchase can take a few bumps and bruises. Makes it rated to take falls and definately will stand up under pressure. There are not many models out there given that are made to be abused.

Price

The problem of price is not as realistic these days because it once was with the difference between underwater and hydrophobic (regular) cameras. In fact, they cost about the same and come in different price ranges. Point and shoot underwater cameras range from under $200 to over $400, the same as standard digital cameras, making price not really a factor when choosing between one or the other. It is an important factor though in choosing which underwater camera, as price can fluctuate quite a bit.

Point and Shoot Underwater Digital Cameras

Using underwater digital cameras while snorkeling or diving can be an incredibly rewarding experience. Even total novices can take some great underwater shots. However, to have perfect pictures underwater, it is essential that you have the right equipment as well as the proper knowledge.

There are a few very expensive, complex high-end underwater digital cameras and equipment available on the market. However, as a beginner, you'd be better off dealing with a more affordable and easier to use underwater camera.

The 2 basic types of underwater digital cameras are the SLR (single lens reflex) camera as well as the point and shoot digital cameras also known as "digi-cams".

All of the well-known manufacturers offer some great point and shoot waterproof cameras. A couple of especially good cameras with this type are the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 as well as the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010.

What to anticipate from Point and Shoot Underwater Digital Cameras

Point and shoot digital cameras will function with a depth of around ten to thirty feet, depending upon the model. They are quite adequate for that depths that most beginner underwater photographers will probably be dealing with.

Designed to be used while swimming or snorkeling, these particular underwater digital cameras are designed for delivering some very stunning and exquisite photos of colorful fish and marine life.

Light Conditions and Underwater Digital Cameras

As mentioned earlier, there are differences between photography underwater and on land. One of these is the amount of light available.

Basically when taking photographs underwater, the deeper the lake - the darker it gets. So, along the way deeper, you need to compensate more for that lack of light and change the settings on your own camera accordingly.

The perfect conditions would be in shallow, calm and clear water with direct sunlight above you. This can be fine in the beginning, however you will ultimately find yourself delving deeper.

Many underwater cameras include automatic settings to pay for low light conditions. In case your camera does not have those options, there a couple of ways to adjust the camera as the available light lessens. A proven way is to increase the ISO setting, amazing . to adjust the shutter speed.

Increasing the ISO will result in a brighter image, but additionally adds the risk of a more grainy texture in the photo. Long shutter speeds also can cause blurry effects, particularly with moving objects.

You can also use your flash in case you are close enough.

Underwater Digital Cameras - When to Make use of the Flash

Light absorption in water is much different from light absorption as it passes through the air. As light passes through water and is also absorbed, the colors which are reflected are seen differently compared to land. The result underwater is much more blue in your images. Sometimes nowhere effect is acceptable, sometimes not.

You need to over-bluing effect, it is important to get close to the subject and use the flash.

Basic Underwater Camera Tips

As with anything, it is the little things that count, and underwater cameras are no different.

When experimenting and getting the feel of taking photos underwater, you will get some great shots. You'll getter better shots in the event you follow the simplest advice.

· Get as close as possible to the object or subject.

· Things look bigger in water, about 25% bigger. So, frame your shots wisely.

· Things float around in water causing "backscatter" when using the flash. Get closer and employ your flash only when necessary.

These are just a few things to keep in mind, and I hope you find them helpful. The others is up to you.

A tight waterproof digital camera is rapidly learning to be a standard item inside the portfolio of equipment items owned and utilized by the amateur hobbyist photographer. They are now relatively inexpensive and widely versatile, rated suitable for a variety of settings such as family pets party, landscapes, travel in addition to underwater-beach-snow. They can be used in the lake with confidence down to a depth of ten meters. Their dimension is truly pocketable.

Most people who own a tight watertight unit recommend them and frequently claim they provide so much freedom outdoors they would never return to employing a standard, non-waterproof unit. You don't have to treat these units properly and respect; no need to hide under an umbrella to snap pictures outdoors when it rains. They are built tough.

Some units are even shock and freeze-proof, causing them to be robust equipment for true adventure expeditions. For why not a few hundred dollars, a photographer can purchase a brawny unit which will operate underwater down to 10 meters and also on the ski slopes down to minus 10 degrees centigrade. Most can survive being dropped from the height of one meter.

Of course, compact cameras are unlikely to capture of the same quality an image as DSLRs (digital single-lens reflex camera). However, compact waterproof units to expect, eventually, to take photos much like those of a standard digital compact. Buying expensive and bulky watertight housings is currently something necessary only in the case of high quality DSLRs.

Watertight compact cameras happen to be available commercially since 2002. A lot of the leading brands have launched a minumum of one model in this segment. Their functionality is impressive but nevertheless remains below that available in standard compacts. The current generation has higher resolution sensors, fast processors, wide-angle lenses, higher resolution and huge LCD screens in addition to built-in image stabilization. Their image quality is quite high. But they do nevertheless have their own limitations.

However, because this segment is still relatively young, the functionality available on watertight units doesn't match the sophistication of normal compacts. For instance, fast shutter speeds, continuous shooting, higher definition video and huge range zoom lenses remain not widely present of many models in this class. Just a few models currently possess these functionalities.

Watertight units are fitted with internal zoom (as opposed to extending) lenses to stop water, dust as well as other foreign material from entering the primary body. As in the truth of waterproof timepieces (watches), watertight cameras have to have their seal checked regularly, every twelve months or so, to make sure it stays watertight. Units which are used frequently (weekly or more) in water will probably need to have its seal replaced annually.

To sum up, compact waterproof cameras for now remain something of your specialist tool. They are seen as a useful item but something to be bought in addition to, as opposed to instead of, a standard compact camera. However, they are going to soon become the new standard. As his or her zoom range increases, resolution improves and overall functionality expands, the unit will be the only compact camera owned by hobbyist photographers.

Underwater photography is a enjoyable and sometimes challenging hobby. Most of us have seen the stunning photographs of tropical reefs and also the burst of color that accompanies those environs. To get a scuba or snorkel diver it's natural and expected that certain day you may want to record your trips underneath the waves by taking pictures so that all of your friends and family can also experience the deep. When you dive headlong in to the ocean to get started capturing (no word play here intended) there's a several things that you must know.

First, you are certainly likely to require a camera, an underwater digital camera. Digital cameras are the standard recently and have turn out to be the most popular option for professional photographers. The underwater camera variety will definitely possess attributes that control deterioration to the camera during usage at various depths. The most effective underwater digital cameras will have dependable functioning beneath the worst conditions.

You can find fundamental components of using a camera underwater that each photographer should understand:

1. The digital camera user ought to get near subject, about 12 inches is ideal. The farther you might be away from the subject the more distortion because water reduces contrast, color and sharpness.
2. Ensure that you use the flash, preferably in "forced flash" mode.
3. When composing the shot attempt to aim "up" at the subject, filling the frame of the shot (don't center). Avoid shooting the shot downward.
4. If you can see the subject's eyes attempt to get them in focus.
5.Practice taking snap shots together with your camera before diving, in the event you understand the procedure of the camera you can prevent mistakes when underwater.
6. Utilize the lowest ISO and the highest resolution.
7.Select a shutter speed suitable for the topic matter; if the subject continues to be use 1/30th, if slow moving use 1/60th, when it is a fast moving subject use 1/125th.
8. Utilize the camera's "raw" mode if possible. It will result in bigger files but far better photos.
9. When working with a flash make sure to use the automated white balance mode.
10. If you are not using a flash then use manual white balance.
11.Make an effort to understand to use the manual function to your camera instead of automatic. Manual usually indicates while using aperture priority function of the digital camera.

These guidelines should assist those not used to using a digital camera beneath the surface of the water. The modern day underwater digital camera models have lots of capabilities to create that job easier than a few years ago when film was an order of the day.

The bottom line is that possessing this functionality being a passion is very attainable using the right camera and preparation. So go grab yourself one of these serious toys and begin clicking away to document your underwater pursuits.

The planet under the water is vastly unknown then there is much to explore. Water is not a medium conducive to technology. Electronics will fry so most cameras will not work, paper will wilt and wither, pencils and pens aren't effective so you can't draw whats down there, so in the end there isn't much to use to capture the beauty and events from the underwater world.

Over time smart people have found ways to create items that are waterproof. We have now the technology to produce waterproof cameras that we can take underwater. You can find underwater digital cameras and underwater camcorders so you can take both pictures and movies. Imagine the memories that can be captured of your children or family when on a break at the beach, or the lake, or possibly a quick trip to the pool. Cheap disposable waterproof cameras are actually excellent toys for budding child photographers. They'd love to show off their pictures to their friends and family.

It's not all family fun and children's toys with regards to underwater cameras. A multitude of tools and waterproof cameras are geared towards the professional photographer. These more complex options will usually enable greater detail, greater depths, in addition to a lot higher quality in construction in order to protect the massive expense this is the camera.

There are two options for someone looking for an underwater camera. You've your straight underwater digital camera, then you've various cases and housings designed to contain a camera. Cameras by themselves that are considered waterproof will probably be regulated to only a certain depth. Any further as well as the camera could be ruined. In the event you already have a good camera you'll want to consider a case or housing for this. A good quality camera housing permits greater depths this means more opportunities to get a great photo.

When researching an underwater digital camera make sure to see the details and description from the camera to know what its tolerances are. In the event you go beyond those tolerances, for instance if you go too deep, then your camera could be ruined. The best thing to do is buy a housing for a camera and use that for underwater photography and use the plain underwater cameras for above water events where there is a chance of it getting wet. Since it is still waterproof you've got nothing to worry about.

If you wish to get some vacation photos that are out of the ordinary, one way to do it is simply to get an underwater digital camera. Take one of these simple on your next vacation, and you will come home with photos that are just not possible to capture having a conventional camera.

Surprisingly, you don't need to break the bank in order to get in about the fun of underwater portrait digital photography. Jazz, the company that's well known for its inexpensive and handy camcorders, offers a low price, three-in-camera that may serve as an underwater camera, a PC camera and a video recorder.

The Jazz JDC38W sells for less than $40 and as an underwater camera you'll be able to take photos at a depth of nine feet. That's deep enough to get photos of reefs and colorful fish.

Don't expect magazine-like photos as this one only has a 1.3 mega pixel resolution and its storage capacity is restricted to 8 GB. For kids and first time snorkelers it is really an adequate model, however, if you want to get into serious, top quality underwater photography then of course you will have to pay a lot more than $40.

The alternative to this camera, within this price range, is to get a single-use disposable, waterproof camera. An alternative choice is to get an underwater housing for an existing digital camera that you may have.

With its plastic case, this camera seems like a toy, but one advantage to this, is that you won't worry about anyone stealing it!

The camera also has a PC mode which allows you to hook it up to your computer and use it for video chat and you can use it to take quick videos on land. The camera includes a flash, self-timer along with a video interface.

The memory is fixed at 8 MB and can't be expanded. The producer says that you can store around 300 images about the memory card, but at the highest resolution you'll get around 75, which should be enough for any snorkeling expedition.

It uses AA batteries and it has a mini LCD panel. It is sometimes complicated to view the images while taking the photos, so you will have to be satisfied with pointing and shooting and longing for the best. Once again, you need to view these limitations from your perspective of the low price.

The third mode of the camera is simply to utilize it as a quick video camera on land, getting the kind of shots you'll normally capture using the video on your cell phone.

If you are looking for a cheaper option to disposable cameras, want to see what underwater photography is focused on without investing heavily, or in order to give it to a child for an unusual toy then a Jazz JDC38W could be the camera for you personally. However, if you want to consider the kind of underwater photos as if you see in "National Geographic" you will have to start saving to get a considerably more expensive digicam.

Snorkeling, deep-sea diving, or even just having a great time in the swimming pool presents photographic opportunities of extraordinary fun. You face two tremendous problems if you select to head underwater with a camera. You need to maintain it safe from the water and keep yourself safe also. A waterproof camera or case may help solve one issue plus a harness strap is but one solution for the other. Let us take a closer look.

Saving You guessed it-your camera from the Water

You have two choices for underwater photography. You should use an existing camera and get an underwater kit. These kits include a waterproof bag and accessories to guard your camera. The second option is to buy a waterproof camera. You can purchase an inexpensive digital waterproof the one which can go down to approximately 35 feet of water for less than $100.

Think about your choice meticulously. You can buy an underwater kit for about $50 or a camera for less than $100. The big advantage to purchasing the camera is your higher cost, high quality camera stays safe. You can hook your cheap underwater camera to your camera harness and never worry about it.

Protecting Yourself from Danger

It's got already been mentioned twice, but it's important to consider the way you intend to carry you guessed it-your camera. You could choose to carry it on the included wrist strap or neck strap but this increases your chance of loss. It is easy to possess the camera slip away and disappear to the lake bottom or ocean floor. The neck strap is for a specified duration to get easily entangled inside a reef or other underwater obstacle.

Having a camera harness system you'll have it safely attached with your chest and will swim with both hands free.it slips out of your hands it just drifts returning to your chest and you won't have to worry that it will get damaged.

The combination of a cheap underwater digital camera plus a camera harness strap provides you with one of the best combinations for straightforward underwater photography. You should have very little risk of financial loss or your own safety. So why not get a one to your camera and feel safe constantly while using your camera. You can choose from different brands and they're affordable. Choose one that is sturdy and durable so that you would be using it for a longer time.

Is well worth your time and money to purchase an underwater digital camera if you enjoy taking photographs. For not much more than many other digital cameras you can have a great purpose camera that may literally go with you anywhere, even going to the pool, or even better, into the ocean. These types of cameras can take pictures and 35 feet of water. Just think about the great shots you'll get on your next scuba diving trip!

Vacations require pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Having a record of the vacation is as essential as the vacation itself! With a camera with this type now pictures can be taken while you are in water. There are some really impressive underwater digital camera models that also work well for each and every day use, so there is no need to own two cameras. In fact, the very things that protect these cameras from water also can shield them in the dirt and grime that is part of a camping vacation!

If you already have a camera that you are happy with, but don't want to take a chance taking it close to the water without protection, you can buy waterproof casings to cover it, but they can cost a lot more than getting one of the very inexpensive underwater disposable cameras you could take along with you for the beach.

Disposable underwater cameras have drawbacks.

1. One of the greatest problems though of disposable cameras is that you have to wait for the developing of the film and you won't know if the pictures you took were a bit of good until then. Disposables are great choices though to deliver with the kids on their own camping or beach trips using their friends! The few dollars that the disposable camera will cost you are worth not having to bother with whether it might get misplaced or broken.

2. Many of the disposable underwater cameras work very well several feet under water, but aren't as reliable as a quality digital camera when it comes to under water lighting, and so the quality of the pictures in deeper water is probably not as clear.

3. Fortunately they are generally not editable; one of the greatest advantages to owning an underwater digital camera is being able to edit your photos when you take them, ensuring that the photos you end up with are really the most effective they can be.

Fresh out the technology gate, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 is already turning heads and raising eyebrows, not forgetting flying off the shelves. The 3rd generation of the TS series, the camera itself is designed for the active lifestyle (or possibly just the careless college kid) and it has more features than can fit on the box.

First and foremost, the Lumix TS3 is definitely an underwater camera. There are a lot of cameras available for the more active, outdoors crowd - however they aren't meant for under water. The Lumix TS3 is a waterproof digital camera approximately 40 feet, which makes it great for snorkeling and boat trips, but not for diving. The underwater digital functionality from the Lumix TS3 is one of four main selling points for your rugged camera. Additionally, the TS3 is a shockproof camera up to 6.6 feet, according to the MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock test standard. Essentially that just means the camera is internally prepared to withstand a fall from your moderate distance. Still it gets dings and also the lens is capable of scratches, nevertheless the vital components of the camera are safe.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 is another dustproof digital camera to the IP6X standard, meaning the finer particles of dust avoid the chassis of the camera during hikes, sports, and beach trips (though leaving it in the sand still is not a smart idea). Your fourth major feature from the camera's durability is its ability to withstand cold temperatures: the Lumix TS3 is a freeze-proof digital camera down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, a normal temperature for pursuits like skiing.

The GPS function on the shockproof digital camera shouldn't be mistaken for a common location-finding feature. Rather, it's more for geo-tagging the exact location of where the photo was taken. The GPS initially takes a while once booted up, therefore it is not something to complete in a hurry. But it is completely functional (particularly in open areas) combined with compass, altimeter, and barometer. And not a common feature available on an underwater digital camera.

But irrespective of ruggedness, the most important section of a camera should always be the picture quality. With a few setting adjustments, the 12.1 megapixel underwater digital camera using a LEICA DC 28mm wide-angle lens takes wonderful outdoor pictures and fantastic 1920 x 1080 AVCHD video. But there are distinct drawbacks.

The flash is either off or on, and that leads to extremely flash-washed pictures in low-light situations. The IAuto mode and Active Outdoor Scene modes lend greater functionality for the generally abysmal point-and-shoot automatic modes, though the best decision is to always find the proper settings manually. The IAuto mode is intended for outdoors shots, therefore it can lead to grainy photos otherwise, because of the high isolation and fast shutter speeds. That being said, the fast-motion action pictures using this waterproof digital camera are exceptional to other things in the market, thanks in part to the high-speed CCD sensor and Venus Engine FHD.

The 3D photo mode seems like more of a gimmick and less of a practical feature, even though it is available for a user after a while to take the 20 panning shots necessary - and also the VIERA 3D television at home to view it on. The Lumix TS3 possesses some incredible shutter speed selections for night shots - up to a 60-second exposure - which are rare for regular point-and-shoots, much less an underwater digital camera. The 2.7-inchd LCD screen minimizes glare but nevertheless doesn't do the pictures justice. Ideal results always come after being cleared up a little on the computer, though the white balance, auto-focus features, and other quick adjustments provided on this underwater digital camera do allow for the user to take great pictures pre-final adjustments.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 is the top in its class for any handheld camera. But it's also in a rare class. It is really an underwater camera, a shockproof camera, a dustproof camera, plus a freezeproof camera. And now, it's still a great camera - for the right lifestyle. The versatility from the camera does cause some sacrifices in terms of basic indoor shooting, nevertheless the overall quality, durability, and feature-list from the Lumix DMC-TS3 makes it the best choice for an active owner.
